Bounce Pads

Doom Eternal’s maps are designed with speed and agility in mind, featuring open spaces and streamlined paths that allow players to move quickly and efficiently.

To aid in this mobility, the game includes Bounce Pads (jump pads), which launch players into the air and allow them to reach higher platforms or cover more ground than they could through regular jumping.

Add a Bounce Pad to a Map

  1. In a map, in World Editor right-click to open the context menu.

  2. Go to New Entity → Trigger → Bounce Pad.

  3. Resize and place the bounce pad.

  4. Add a bounce destination by opening the context menu (right-click) and going to New Entity → Info → Bounce Destination.

  5. Place the bounce destination on the ground where you want the player to end up.

  6. With the bounce pad selected, open Entity Inspector.

  7. Set the Launch Speed property for the bounce pad.

    info

The higher the launch speed, the higher and faster the player will be launched. Launch speeds should be entered in units per second.

  8. Set the Bounce Destination property for the bounce pad.

  • Without an assigned destination, the bounce pad will launch the player straight up. To adjust this default, enter the name of the bounce destination you added to the map.

    info

idStudio calculates a trajectory for the player that lands at the origin of the bounce destination. The launch speed must be high enough for the player to be able to reach the destination.

idStudio displays a red line if the launch speed is too low, and a green arc if the launch speed is high enough.

  1. (Optional) Set other bounce pad properties in Entity Inspector.
    • Example: Set Launch FX to trigger an effect when the bounce pad is used.
