Spline Editor

Splines are utilized extensively in video game programming to represent smooth and complex curves and surfaces that are mathematically defined. Splines are often used to define paths that game characters or objects follow. Instead of defining each point along a path, a spline is used to create a smooth trajectory that the object can follow, making movements appear more natural and fluid. You can use splines to draw out complex paths without having to add each movement as a move command on the mover entity.

Add/edit a spline in a map

add/edit a spline

  1. In a map, in World Editor: Right Click → New spline
  2. With the spline selected, open the Spline Editor: Tools menu → Spline Editor
  3. Use the Spline toolbar buttons to add, insert, and delete control points. Select and drag the control points in the World Editor. The spline will draw a smooth line between the control points.

Target the spline to be used as a mover

  1. Add a mover to your map: Right Click → New Entity → func → mover
  2. Target the spline by first selecting the mover, then selecting the spline and pressing Ctrl + K. The targets.item[0] property should now be set to your spline.

You can also enter the spline as a Destination Entity under the mover’s Mover Scripter property in Entity Inspector.

  1. The mover must be activated before traveling down the spline. Add a trigger and target the mover with it.
