idStudio
The DOOM Eternal Launcher specializes in managing "server mods", while the idStudio page specifically helps users manage their "idStudio mods". An idStudio mod is a mod that has been created on the user's machine using idStudio.
These mods are created when the idStudio tool starts up without having an existing idStudio mod focus and are saved to a path that can be found in the user settings dialog (DOOM Eternal Launcher → Settings → idStudio → Save path). By default the idStudio save directory is %DOCUMENTS%\id Software\id-studio, but can be overwritten by the user at any time.
When creating mods through idStudio, it is best to limit idStudio's base save path to a directory with no more than 16 characters. This is because some game asset names are extremely long and exceed filename limits when loading into idStudio.
We recommend using a save path for idStudio like: C:\doom
idStudio Mod Properties
Shared Properties
"idStudio mods" share a sub-set of properties with their "server mod" counterparts. These properties help describe and identify what the mod is, how it works, and how it is meant to be used.
| Title | The mod's title or visual name | Max 250 characters |
| Tags | A short list of tags to categorize this mod | Max 5 tags |
| Overview | A short summary of the mod | Max 500 characters |
| Description | A full description of the mod | Max 10,000 characters |
Associated Server Mods
"idStudio mods" have an additional "optional" property called its associated server mod. This property is applied to an "idStudio mod" after it is uploaded to the DOOM mod servers. Once this "idStudio mod" has an entry on the DOOM mod server, its associated server mod is linked to its record on disk.

Removing a Server Mod Association
At times, it is necessary to break the association between a server mod and an "idStudio" mod. This is specifically true when the mod author deletes the server mod from the DOOM mod servers and still has the idStudio mod installed on disk. When this happens, the idStudio version of the mod has an "orphaned" record for its "associated server mod" property.
There are two ways to break a mod association:
- Using the DOOM Eternal Launcher
- Manually removing an association
Using the Launcher
- Open the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
- Click on the My Creations tab.
- Sign into a valid Bethesda.net account.
- Click on the idStudio page.
- Click on the desired mod from the idStudio mod list.
- On the associated server mod preview card, click Remove server association.
Manually Removing an Association
Before manually editing a mod, make sure that the idStudio development tools are closed.
First find where the specific idStudio mod is installed on disk:
- Open the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
- Click on the My Creations tab.
- Sign into a valid Bethesda.net account.
- Click on the idStudio page.
- Click on the desired mod from the idStudio mod list.
- On the idStudio mod's header bar, click Browse files...
- Open the
modinfo.dev.jsonfile in your favorite text editor. - Delete the
content_identry from the json object. - Save the file and restart idStudio/DOOM Eternal Launcher.
Deleting an idStudio Mod
To delete an idStudio mod from disk:
- Open the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
- Click on the My Creations tab.
- Sign into a valid Bethesda.net account.
- Click on the idStudio page.
- Click on the desired mod from the idStudio mod list.
- On the idStudio mod's header bar, click the Delete mod button.
This is an extremely destructive action and your deleted files may not be recoverable, please make sure you know what you are doing!
