Engine Tab
The Engine tab is the game operating within a windowed tab inside idStudio. It will load included maps or user-created maps. As you refine your mod, you'll utilize the Engine tab to load and test your map. Upon first launching idStudio, the Engine tab automatically opens in the center pane, behind the World Editor.
Usage
The Engine tab is generally used to test changes as you iterate on your mod. After switching to the Engine tab, you’ll use the console to enter commands.
| Keystroke | Action |
|---|---|
| Tilde (~) | Open the console to enter commands & regain control of mouse |
| Alt + Tab | Regain control of mouse |
Common Concerns
Mouse Control
After switching to the Engine Tab, you will no longer be able to use your mouse at first. To regain control, do one of the following:
- Press Alt + Tab.
or - Press the tilde key (~).
Adjust Settings Within idStudio
When you first open the Engine Tab, you will have access to the in-game Settings and can adjust them from this location. However, doing so may cause issues in idStudio such as causing idStudio to become unresponsive.
When working in the idStudio Engine Tab, avoid changing these settings:
| Settings Tab | Sub-Section |
|---|---|
| Video → Display | Window Mode |
| Monitor | |
| Aspect Ratio | |
| Resolution | |
| Vertical Sync | |
| Enable HDR |
If you want to adjust any of the settings above, it is best to do so in the game itself rather than through idStudio.
You can change the Overall Quality in the idStudio Engine Tab. However, if you select Ultra Nightmare, you may run out of GPU memory.
We recommend setting Overall Quality to Medium or High.
