id Tech Installation
Prerequisites
In order to begin using the tools to create DOOM Eternal mods, you will need to download the most recent version of DOOM Eternal as well as the DOOM Eternal tools app from Steam.
- The base game for DOOM Eternal can be found: here
- The DOOM Eternal Tools app can be found on Steam, under its own application
To download the DOOM Eternal Tools app, you must have access to the base DOOM Eternal game in Steam. Additionally, the DOOM Eternal tools are only available through Steam.
Default file structure
The tools package (idStudio) will be installed in the same physical location as the latest DLC for DOOM Eternal.
Running the Tools application will also create an id Software folder in your Documents in File Explorer. This file is important when working on new creations.

The activemods directory is the default file path for packaged personal creations, as well as public mods you have downloaded from the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
The idStudio directory displays all mod creation files. When idStudio is launched from the DOOM Eternal Launcher for the first time, the user is prompted to create their first mod folder. The first ID defaults to doom-mod-000, but is randomly generated on new mods after the first.
The idStudio folder won’t be populated with anything until that first mod is created. Each mod creation file includes a base folder. The id Tech base folder is a directory in the file system of games developed using the id Tech engine. It contains the core files and assets required to run the game engine. The folder includes subfolders for sound effects, textures, models, maps, and other game assets. You can modify the contents of the base folder to customize the game's appearance and behavior.
