Play

Once you have downloaded some mods, it's time to start a modded session of DOOM Eternal!

This process has been streamlined into the following steps:

  1. Set the mod load order.
  2. Importing your DOOM Eternal save profile (optional)
  3. Click the Launch with active mods button.

Setting Mod Load Order​

When starting a modded session of any game the engine must load each mod one at a time on top of each other. Oftentimes, you can have several mods that alter the same assets in different ways.

This is why setting a "load order" for mods is especially important. Different load orders can affect how mods interact with each other based on which mod edits what assets.

To set a mod load order:

  1. Open the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
  2. Click on the "Mods" tab.
  3. Click on the "Play" page.
  4. Select any mod (or mods) from the "Installed mods" list to add them to the mod load-order (puts them in the "Active mods" list)
  5. Drag and drop mods within the "Active mods" list to re-order them into the desired load order, with the top-most mod being the first mod that is loaded and the mod at the bottom of the list being the last mod that is loaded.

The mod load order is saved every time a new mod is brought into the "Active mods" list or when the "Active mods" list is re-ordered. This load order is persisted on disk so that it will remain the same until you change it.

Importing your save profile (optional)​

When Launching with mods, it is possible to pull in your existing DOOM Eternal save profile so that you do not have to start from square one! To do this, check the Import save profile at the top of the "Play" page.

Checking this option will overwrite your modded save profile with your DOOM Eternal (un-modded) saves. Everytime a modded session is started, if this option is checked, the save profile will be re-imported.

important

Modding DOOM Eternal will not overwrite your un-modded game saves ever.

Playing DOOM Eternal with Mods​

After setting a mod load order, to play a modded version of DOOM Eternal:

  1. Open the DOOM Eternal Launcher.
  2. Click on the "Mods" tab.
  3. Sign into a valid Bethesda.net account.
  4. Click on the "Play" page.
  5. Click "Launch with active mods".
